New homes aim to offset shortage of affordable housing in hurricane-damaged Rockport

The Texas General Land Office disaster recovery team marked completion of a multifamily housing complex in Rockport to replace affordable rental housing destroyed by Hurricane Harvey.
The GLO and the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday for the new Saltgrass Landing Apartments.

The Saltgrass Landing Apartments are a 50-unit multifamily community with all units guaranteed for low- to moderate-income residents for 20 years after completion and 15 years after completion of repairs, a news release said.
The GLO was awarded $7.6 million to rebuild the complex and allocated $12.9 million for projects in Aransas, Nueces and Refugio counties.
Hurricane Harvey devastated Rockport, Port Aransas, Aransas Pass and other coastal communities when it rumbled ashore in August 2017. The massive storm damaged most of the structures in those communities and left many homes uninhabitable.
The program also celebrated the completion of a nearly $5 million, 40-unit complex in Yoakum.
